Update 4:11am Monday: The National Weather Service has extended the time frame of this Winter Weather Advisory from 3pm today through 9am Tuesday. The areas in the advisory remain the same. Full information below.
Parts of far north Alabama could see a threat of freezing rain, sleet, and ice through early Tuesday morning.
Just after 11pm on Sunday, January 13, 2013, the Huntsville office of the National Weather Service issued a Winter Weather Advisory for extreme north Alabama, including the cities of Huntsville and Muscle Shoals. This advisory goes from 3pm Monday until 6am Tuesday.
The area could see light freezing drizzle mix with sleet in the early afternoon hours on Monday, but the forecasters with the Weather Service note the greatest potential for the formation of ice will be overnight on Monday into Tuesday.
While the Freezing Rain accumulations are, at this time, expected to be less than a quarter of an inch, the Weather Service notes that “some damage to trees and power lines will be possible, especially during times of strong northeasterly wind gusts.” Driving could become hazardous as well in these areas.
At this time, no winter weather is expected within the News 4 viewing area.
