Authorities are investigating a white powdery substance discovered at the Attorney General's office in Montgomery.

According to Capt. Mark Williams with the Montgomery Fire Department, a secretary opened an envelope that contained a suspicious white substance. Several different agencies responded to the scene. Once there, a Hazmat team set up a portable decontamination tent across the street. Six people were possibly exposed to the substance. The Attorney General was not one of them.

U-S Postal Inspectors tested the substance and their initial test shows the substance is not harmful. However, a special military team is being called in to do a second test to confirm the original test.

Around 4:40 p.m. on Wednesday, Attorney General Luther Strange released the following statement about the incident.

"Our employees are all safe, and for that I am most thankful. The Attorney General's Office is working with state and federal authorities to investigate the source of the letter received today. I want to commend the first responders, firefighters, medics and law enforcement personnel for their rapid response, assistance and professionalism."
