On 09/21/2012 Officer with the Marianna Police department responded to 2933 Milton Ave “GIBB Apartments” in reference to a found weapon. The manager of the complex called the police department and said that one of the residences had found a weapon in the bushes.
After talking with the resident he told us that his nephew Douglas Merritt had taken the gun and put in the kitchen of his apartment and told him that he had found the gun.
While at the residence officers were approached by another subject that said he had been in a confrontation with Merritt and Merritt pulled the firearm on him and threatened to kill him. Merritt was taken into custody and upon a search of his person extra ammunition for the shotgun was found on his person.
