By  |

As summer time is upon us, many folks have plans to visit relatives, travel overseas or are simply planning a family fun trip not too far from home. Keep these crime prevention tips in mind:

When leaving the house for an extended time, call the Sheriff’s Office to be put on our vacation watch list 850.892.8111. Deputies will perform security checks while you are away.

-Indoor and outdoor lights should be on automatic timers.
-Do not share details of your travel plans on social media websites
-Be extra cautious about locking doors and windows when you leave the house
-Check smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors
-Keep hedges and bushes around your home trimmed
-Contact the post office to stop mail as well as your local newspaper to hold deliveries
-If you have a home alarm system, please contact them to let them know of your travel plans and leave a number where you can be reached in case of an emergency.
-If you have a pet, please make sure they are properly cared for while you are away.
