WTVY to Host Drive for Wiregrass Food Bank

(Dothan, Al)—The Wiregrass Food Bank is running out of supplies and needs your help. The agency stores and distributes food to more than six agencies; however the summer months are taking a toll on resources.

“When schools and businesses close for the summer, we lose support, we lose drives, we lose donations,” Wiregrass Food Bank Special Events Coordinator Julie Gonzalez said. “We also see an increase in the demand for food during these months, so it’s definitely taken a toll on us,” she said.

Gonzalez says the business is getting by through the help of donations, but is still lacking in canned good essentials.

“We have coffee, and desserts, but we really need canned fruits, vegetables, and meats,” Gonzalez said. “We package dinners for families with these items, and right now don’t have enough of them,” she said.

To help out, WTVY a “Re-stock the Shelves” food drive on August 23rd. The event runs from 8:57 A.M until 7 P.M. and will take place right in front of the News 4 Building on North Foster Street.
