Walton County Sheriff's Office Encourages Individuals to Lock Their Vehicles

The Walton County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Bureau wants to warn the public to lock their vehicles.

Since April 30th, several vehicle burglaries have taken place in Miramar Beach around the Scenic Gulf area. In each case, all the vehicles were unlocked and are currently under investigation. The Sheriff’s Office is asking citizens to call and report any suspicious activity at 850.892.8111.

Anyone with information about the vehicle burglaries may contact the Walton County Sheriff’s Office or may possibly become eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000 by contacting Emerald Coast Crime Stoppers at 863-TIPS (863-8477), or toll-free at 1-888-654-TIPS.

Information can be provided anonymously by texting “TIP214 plus the message” to CRIMES (274637) or can be submitted on-line at www.emeraldcoastcrimestoppers.com. Crime Stoppers callers are never required to reveal their identity nor testify in court. A code number system is used to pay cash rewards without compromising the tipster’s identity.

In an effort to deter and prevent auto burglaries throughout Walton County, the Crime Prevention Unit of the Walton County Sheriff’s Office has implemented a program called HIDE, LOCK, TAKE. The premise is simple: HIDE your things, LOCK your car and TAKE your keys. The program has been implemented throughout the United States and Canada where there has been a dramatic reduction in auto thefts and car break-ins.
