Volunteers Needed for Miracle League Baseball Season

DOTHAN, AL---The Miracle League field is empty but in a little more than a week that will change But not without your help.

The group needs umpires, coaches and buddies to help out.

"The main qualification for volunteering at the miracle field is just having a heart for people," said Buddy Volunteer Coordinator Allen Singley.

Volunteers will help both on and off the field.

"It's about the players it's about those with special needs in our community and giving them the opportunity to play a game."

No experience is necessary for an umpire or buddy.

"An umpire mainly provides the safety aspect and makes sure that somebody's not getting up to bat while somebody's in front of it."

"To be a buddy you just mainly want to get out there and help the players the best you can."

Volunteers don't have to be someone who wants to help out monday thru friday. churches and other groups are welcome to pitch in as well.

"They'll say hey listen can I just come out on a thursday night and they'll just come out on that thursday night and help," said Singley.

Organizers say without volunteers, the game wouldn't be possible and the players definitely show their gratitude.

"The players going to love on you, you're going to be the greatest thing to them they're going to hug your neck, you''re such a joy and treat to them to be able to hang out on the field with them help them run the bases help them in the field help them to get up and bat," explained Singley.

Teams play on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

The season opens March 23rd.
