12th Star Trek Feature Film to be Titled "Star Trek Into Darkness"

The twelfth “Star Trek” motion picture’s title has been confirmed as “Star Trek Into Darkness.”

“Star Trek Into Darkness” will be the sequel to 2009 movie which rebooted the franchise. Although the movie was a reboot, it didn’t completely do away with the history of the previous series such as “Star Trek: The Next Generation” and “Star Trek: Voyager.”

The 2009 feature film explained that the reboot was set in an alternate--or split--timeline, thus not entirely wiping out what many fans call the Trek “canon" established between 1966 and 2005.

Star Trek has a powerful, long-lasting legacy in both television and movies, with over 500 television episodes and eleven movies produced thus far, along with numerous novels, technical manuals and fan works.

The main cast from the 2009 “Star Trek” will be returning, including Chris Pine (Captain James T. Kirk), Zachary Quinto (Spock) and Karl Urban (Dr. Leonard McCoy).
