Tuskegee VA Employee Arrested for Sexual Assault Gets No Bond

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) -- A federal judge has ruled a worker at the Veterans Administration Health Center in Tuskegee will be held without bond until his trial on charges alleging sexual abuse of a mentally disabled volunteer.

The Montgomery Advertiser reports U.S. Magistrate Judge Charles S. Coody made the decision after hearing testimony from investigators.

The worker, 44-year-old Eric Allen of Auburn, is facing two counts of sexual abuse related to incidents that happened on Aug. 5 and Aug. 8 involving a female volunteer with Down Syndrome. A defense attorney says Allen suffered from a stroke that has caused mental health issues and cognitive delays.

Allen is a veteran who participates in the VA's compensated work therapy program.
