Troy University's Wiregrass Archives to Host Workshop

DOTHAN—Troy University’s Wiregrass Archives at the Dothan Campus will host an upcoming workshop on how the records of local churches can be a valuable tool in historical or genealogical research.

“Finding Grandpa in the Pew: Using Church Records in Genealogical and Historical Research” will be held on Saturday, Feb. 22, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. inside the Harrison Room in Malone Hall. The presenter will be Elizabeth Wells, Samford University Special Collections Librarian and Archivist. Samford serves as the Alabama Baptist Historical Collection depository, and Wells has served as the president for the Association of Librarians and Archivists at Baptist Institutions.

Attendees will learn how to locate, identify and best utilize church records when researching the history of families, churches, and communities. Suggested audiences include genealogists, church historians and leaders, and local historians.

Registration is $20, and preregistration is required. The cost includes lunch, handouts and a certificate of attendance.
