Troy University's Wiregrass Archives Host Church Records Workshop

Local church records may be more important than you think.

That’s why Troy University’s Dothan campus hosted a workshop for individuals that are interested in historical research. The workshop was led by Elizabeth Wells, a Samford University special collections librarian and archivist. Attendees had the opportunity to learn how to locate, identify and best utilize church records when researching the history of family members.

“In the 18th Century the entire congregations would emigrate from one place to another. It wouldn’t be a few people and then their relatives. Whole congregations would get up and move to a new area,” said Dr. Martin T. Oliff, an associate professor at Troy University.

Registration for the event was $20. All participants received a certificate of attendance.
