TROY—Thirty-five Troy University students will receive their diplomas June 26 at a special commencement ceremony in China.

The students compose the 10th graduating class of the Sino-American 1-2-1 Dual Degree Program, a consortium of American and Chinese universities, operating under the auspices of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU) and the China Center for International Educational Exchange (CCIEE). TROY was the first U.S. university to participate in the program, with the first class of students arriving in fall 2001, and the University has been used by AASCU as a model for other institutions participating in the 1-2-1 program.

The program allows Chinese students at partner institutions to start their degree program, transfer to TROY for two years and then return to their home institutions to complete their degree requirements. At the conclusion of the program, the students receive a diploma from both the home institution and TROY.

The 2013 ceremony will take place at the campus of Jinan University in Guangzhou, China. More than 300 students have graduated through the program, including the members of the class of 2013.

Dr. Jack Hawkins, Jr., Chancellor, will officiate the awarding of TROY degrees during the 1-2-1 Dual-Degree Program Annual Conference, and participate in the conference along with 100 Chinese universities and 21 U.S. universities. He will open the conference’s Presidential Forum as keynote speaker, presenting “Partnerships Fuel Internationalization.”
