Trial Set for Center Stage Alabama

DOTHAN, Ala. (AP) -- A trial date has been set in a case involving 600 electronic bingo machines that were seized from Center Stage Alabama last year.

The machines and $280,000 cash were seized from the Cottonwood casino in July 2012 and the trial is set for Aug. 5.

The Dothan Eagle reports the trial will give the Houston Economic Development Authority, which operates bingo at Center Stage, an opportunity to argue that the machines were legal under state law. The state argues the devices do not fit the state's definition of bingo and are essentially slot machines -- which are illegal under state law.
