ANNISTON, Ala. (AP) -- A man accused of killing an Anniston police officer won't be tried in that city.

Calhoun County Circuit Judge Brian Howell has ruled that the capital murder trial of Joshua Eugene Russell will be held elsewhere. The judge ruled Friday that a change of the trial location was appropriate after seeing a survey of Calhoun County residents.

The Anniston Star (http://bit.ly/13D0laQ ) reports that the survey by Birmingham-Southern College professor Natalie Davis found 70 percent of those interviewed had knowledge of important facts in the case from following news coverage. District Attorney Brian McVeigh agreed the trial should be moved from Calhoun County to give Russell a fair trial.

The 25-year-old Russell is charged with the shooting death of 27-year-old officer Justin Sollohub during a foot chase in August 2011.
