The world's largest car-maker, Toyota, announced defects on more than 6 million of its vehicles Wednesday.

With five different safety hazards, it's one of the biggest recalls in automotive history.

The defects are in more than 27 Toyota models, including the Highlander, 2009 and '10 Matrix and Rav4.

The company says some affected models could have more than one defect.

The biggest recall on the list is for a faulty module cable. When damaged, the driver side airbag can deactivate and not deploy on impact.

Other recalls include replacing faulty driver seat rails that hold a passenger in place and damaged steering columns that can loosen when the wheel is turned.

Analysts expect the problems could cost the company close to $600 million to fix.

The company has publicly apologized for the inconvenience.
