Tips to Keep your Kids Safe this Halloween

DOTHAN, AL--You're kids are probably excited about trick or treating this year but there are some safety measures you should keep in mind.

Trick-or-treating for the city of Dothan is set for Wednesday, October 31st , from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Dothan police and fire officials say it's best for parents to plan routes in advance and to make sure their children are aware of street and costume safety.

"Make sure that children are using sidewalks and yards to travel from home to home. It's very important that children aren't crossing back and forward across the street," said Sgt. Rachel David with the Dothan police department.

"Have a reflective tape on the costume so that when you're near the road ways or crossing with parental assistance that on coming traffic can see the children and make sure that if you purchase a costume it has a tag that says fire resistant," said Chris Etheridge with the Dothan Fire Department.

Drivers should slow down when driving through neighborhoods.

If you see any street light outages before trick or treating hours you can report those by calling 334- 615-3302.
