“Through with Chew” Week in Dothan

Dothan city officials are urging you to be “Through with Chew.”

This week’s proclamation by Dothan Mayor Mike Schmitz serves as a call to the community to try and reduce the number of deaths from tobacco use through awareness.

Using smokeless tobacco is a trend more popular in Alabama’s schools than the national average. Judy Guiler, with the Wiregrass Tobacco Free Coalition said, “Twenty percent of high school students are chewing tobacco, where as the national average is 12.5 percent.”

Green ribbons were passed out Tuesday at the city commission meeting to honor the memory of those who died from a tobacco addiction.
