Thousands Will Vote at New Precinct

Next Tuesday is Alabama’s primary election. Voters will decide who will be on the ballot in the general election later this year, but for many people in Dothan they will be voting at a new precinct.

For years, Westgate Park has been the busiest voting precinct in Dothan.

“With approximately 10,000 voters out at Westgate it is inevitable that there are going to be long lines. We can provide the amount of workers they need there, but even with the workers it just takes a long time,” said Probate Judge Patrick Davenport.

Davenport is hopeful voters will be able to get in and out more quickly this year.

They’ve reassigned nearly 5,500 voters to new precincts. 1,200 people will now vote at the Vaughn Blumberg Center, and 4,300 will vote at Dothan First Assembly.

“We’re excited to be able to provide this to the community. It’s a great way to give back to the community and help out,” said Administrative Pastor Carl Greene, Dothan First Assembly.

If you are voting at Dothan First Assembly, you’ll want to drive around behind the church to the Christian Life Center and enter through the side doors.

“We’re looking forward to it. Don’t know exactly what it’s going to look like. Don’t know exactly how many people will be here, but we’re happy to be able to do that,” said Greene.

Voters were notified of the change by mail twice, but if you’re not sure where your voting precinct is visit Click on the election tab on the left side of the page and then you can click on the voting precinct map to find out where you should go to vote.

With this election comes the new Voter ID Law.

You will need to have a valid photo ID to cast your ballot next Tuesday.

It must be government issued, like a driver's license, passport, or military ID.
You can also still get a free voter ID card from your county board of registrar's office.

You can find what ID’s will be accepted and what you’ll need to obtain a free voter ID card at .
