DOTHAN--It looks like the economy nor the weather can put a dent in the crowds at the National Peanut Festival.

"We've had excellent attendance this week, the weather's been very cooperative," said National Peanut Festival Safety Director Jason Rudd.

Organizers say they may be close to breaking an attendance record.

"We're on track believe it or not in this economy to have the best year ever," said Rudd.

And vendors agree.

"It's been great, my boss said better than last year," said Mark Conger an employee at Gabby's Grill.

The big day according to festival organizers is hours away.

"Typically the last saturday, after the parade we get a huge influx of person's wanting to come visit the rides and the festival and enjoy some peanuts," said Rudd.

And speaking of the parade.

Early Friday morning crews were out laying chairs and bleachers along the route.

The parade will start in downtown Dothan at the Civic Center on East Main Street, Highway 84.

It will roll down West Main and end at S. Park Avenue.

Parade organizers say the morning may be a little hectic so you might want to plan ahead as far as traffic is concerned.

"Main Street will be blocked, all access roads will be blocked around 7:30 and Oates is the only crossing street on Main and it will be blocked at 8 p.m.," said NPF Parade Division Chair, Ronald Coleman.

The gates will open after the parade at noon but if there are a lot of people waiting to get in and all staff are on hand the gates may open at 11:30.a
