2013 Parade of Homes Kicks Off

DOTHAN, AL---The three day event designed for home buyers and designers is underway.

"This is a great opportunity to be able to come out and see all of what the builders of Dothan have available to the market right now," said Mark Everett with Everett Construction.

Organizers say visitors have a lot to look forward to this time around.

"The appliances have changed, here in our showcase home that Mark Everett did you'll see that he used a microwave drawer and that's a really neat appliance up grade that people haven't seen in the past," said Parade Chairman and Dothan Wiregrass VP Homebuilders Association Matthew Anderson.

Anderson says there's a driving force when it comes to the local housing market.

"There's a lot of young professionals that really drives the market and the home building industry in dothan, it is a little bit slower than it had been back during the boom but we've actually seen it pick up the last couple of years and the last six months it's really increased."

The tours just aren't for those who are looking to buy, some people come looking for something else.

"We have a lot of people that come out that are just really trying to get ideas for kitchen remodel or bathroom upgrades."

Anderson says color schemes and cabinetry are also a top interest.

More than 20 homes will be on display.
You can take a tour of the homes Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday 1p.m. to 6 p.m.
