The murder trial of former Olympian Oscar Pistorius, begins today.
He's accused of killing his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, in his home on Valentine’s Day last year in South Africa.
Steenkamp's parents were among the first to arrive Monday morning to the court house in Pretoria.
Steenkamp was a model, who was about to star in a reality TV show before she died.
Pistorius, a double amputee known as the 'blade runner', told police he thought she was a burglar when he shot four times into an upstairs bathroom.
His lawyers are expected to argue Pistorius was deeply in love with Steenkamp and made a terrible mistake.
The state says it was cold-blooded murder after an argument.
Pistorius was one of South Africa’s favorite sons after becoming a track star despite losing both his legs before his first birthday.
He won six Paralympics gold medals and was the first double amputee runner to compete in the Olympic Games.
The trial is expected to last at least three weeks.
