Many people hit the theaters this weekend, and from the looks of things, horror was the top choice.
Lionsgate's "The Possession" topped the weekend box office charts, grossing more than $17 million over the weekend.
Weinstein Company's "Lawless" took the second spot. It brought in more than $9.5 dollars.
And in its third week, "The Expendables 2" rounded out the top three. The Lionsgate film brought in $8.8 million this weekend, bringing its total earnings so far to more than $66 million.
Now in its 18th week, Marvel's "The Avengers" is hanging in the top 15. It's brought in more than
$619 million.
