Symposium Focuses on Gulf of Mexico

ST. PETE BEACH, Fla. (AP) -- Scientists, fishery experts and government officials will discuss the state of the Gulf of Mexico during a two-day meeting in St. Pete Beach.

The Gulf of Mexico Fisheries Symposium will be held Friday and Saturday and expected to draw hundreds of experts.

According to a news release, the attendees will discuss the effects of the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill. Also, the results of research funded by the Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation's 2010 "Save Our Gulf" campaign will be presented by the group.

The event is co-sponsored by USF's College of Marine Science and the Florida Institute of Oceanography. USF's College of Marine Science Dean Jackie Dixon will speak and FIO Director Bill Hogarth will moderate a panel discussion.
