Suspended Ala. Graduate Student Arrested

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) -- Officials at the University of Alabama say a suspended doctoral student is in jail on charges of stalking and making terroristic threats.

The Tuscaloosa News reports Zachary Burrell, a 28-year-old physics student, is being held on $500,000 bond after being arrested Friday.

The grad student was suspended from the university in October for behavioral reasons, and began sending sent suspicious emails and video clips to university staff members in November.

A spokeswoman for the school said the messages did not contain any direct threats. However, officials say the emails made inferences to a movie based on a student elsewhere who killed four faculty members before committing suicide in 1991.

It is not known whether Burrell has an attorney.
