A Nevada woman is dead after an unlicensed doctor performed a cosmetic procedure on her over the weekend.
A 42-year-old woman is dead after undergoing a medical procedure to enhance her buttocks. Elena Caro died Saturday.
Fifty-five-year-old Ruben Dario Matallana-Galvas and 47-year-old Carmen Olfidia Torres-Sanchez were arrested at McCarran International Airport as they attempted to board a flight to Colombia.
Police said around 10 a.m. Saturday, Elena Caro's daughter dropped off her mother at 3310 east Charleston Boulevard.
She was greeted by Doctor Matallana-Galves and his wife, Carmen Torres-Sanchez, who served as his assistant.
Before Caro's daughter left, she saw the doctor inject something into her mother's backside.
A few hours later she came back and said her mom was nowhere to be found and the office was abandoned.
Caro later died at a hospital after she was found near Pecos Road and Lake Mead Boulevard.
"There are many scary things that can happen. Besides infection, there are many documented cases where injections placed material into a vein that travel into patients heart and lung and cause immediate death," said plastic surgeon Dr. Julio Garcia.
Matallana allegedly injected Caro with 200 CC's of a gel substance after she had asked him for a buttocks enhancement surgery, even after he told her he didn't have the right equipment to do it.
He also admitted to police that he is a homeopathic doctor in his native country, but not a licensed physician in Nevada.
Police caught up with Dr. Matallana and his wife late Saturday trying to catch a flight to Colombia.
The two are now in jail facing murder charges and are due back in court April 13th.
