In school we all learned about reading, writing and 'rithmatic...but a recent study suggests that Alabama students may have the reading and 'rithmatic but might be lacking when it comes to the writing part.
"Sometimes writing is not emphasized as much as it should be."
But that's not an excuse for Hall...she says writing is fundamental so she stresses it daily.
"We encourage all of our teachers to incorporate writing within every aspect of their classes." And she even has a simple method for getting those pencils moving.
"Everyday...talk..write...investigate...read..and listen. so we encourage writing to help students I guess get that love for writing." But sometimes students can't fully develop a love for writing because there are so many distractions.
One thing that students may face is that they spend a lot of time on one of these...and the problem..writing on one of these and writing on paper are completely different.
Since it's hard to fully eliminate distractions, Theresa Evans-Vain tries to use the distractions to her advantage.
"We can take the texting and I can let them write in the rough drafts that way...because anytime I can get them to put one thing down on paper, that's their thoughts and then we slowly work our way to this is a formal paper."
Vain started a new program this week called the "Writer's Notebook" and she says that slow and steady wins the race.
'We're gone go through the thesis statement..the supporting details...the conclusion and I will take them step by step this entire week."
And she hopes that this step by step approach will get her students on the right track.
