Students on Fort Rucker Celebrate Reading with Week of Activities

FORT RUCKER -- The kindergartners at the Primary School at Fort Rucker celebrated National Read Across America Day with story time with a soldier.

Colonel Stuart McRae stopped by the school to read to the young students. Their teachers said reading Dr. Seuss's books help them learn how to rhyme, and that improves their self confidence.

"He showed us how you can just take away that beginning sound and now you know ten new words just by changing that consonent sound," Kindergarten teacher Rhonda Sullivan said. "They get excited, it makes them feel so smart to be able to rhyme."

The Primary School has organized events all week. They will host an all-school Seuss Celebration on Thursday and Friday.
