Students Recovering from Deck Collapse in Gulf Shores

GULF SHORES, Ala. (AP) -- Several college students are recovering from injuries after a crowded deck collapsed at a beach house in Gulf Shores.

WRKG-TV reports that at least six people were taken to a hospital Monday afternoon complaining of head and neck injuries and a few broken bones.

Initial estimates put 15 to 20 people on the deck. But a photo taken moments before the collapse shows the number could be higher.

Alex Logue says he was on his way to the house when he heard a huge cracking sound and then saw the deck fall.

Gary Drake is staying across the street and also witnessed the crash. He says people scattered like an ant hill that had been disturbed.

This is the second week of spring break along Baldwin County beaches.
