Students Participate in an Exploration Extravaganza

Students at Heard Magnet School got a hands-on lesson in transportation Friday.

The school held it's annual exploration extravaganza.

The students enjoyed tractor rides, learned about boats, trains, water transportation and even got to see a rocket demonstration.

"it's extremely important for kids to be involved in the learning process and have hands on experience, research shows that children learn best when they're part of the exploring so we try to provide opportunities where they can do more instead of listening to teachers," said Heard Magnet 3rd grade teacher Elizabeth Landwerlen.

The school has also reached its goal to build its new playground.

Within two years students and faculty have collected $50,000 and they now have a matching grant.

So they have reached their $100,000 goal.
