Students Get Sneak Peek of Spring Farm Day

DOTHAN, AL--It's a day of hands on history lessons where students feel like little farmers.

"It's fun and I'm learning a lot," said 8-year-old Kinion Fowler.

"They get to see different chores like sheep sheering, wool washing, the pottery wheel," said Landmark Park's Education Director Dana Peters.

Even though the kids are having fun, the experience is important.

"Once people who know how to do these things like our great grand parents, once they're gone we won't have that anymore, so if we don't pass it on to the next generation then those skills and things that they did will be lost," said Peters.

"I might be able to do the butter and making the chairs," added Fowler.

Besides animals some students took special note of other parts of the lesson.

"They played musical instruments and we went on a nature walk," said 8-year-old Stephen Miller.

"It helps sheep and humans because they want to shed their wool in the spring and humans need it in the winter," said Fowler.

"When you try to break it, it doesn't break until it gets weak," said 8-year-old Chamiya Beaty.

So hopefully after this history lesson we'll have a few more farmers to keep the business going.

Landmark Park's Spring Farm Day is open to the public Saturday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.
Gate admission is $8 for adults and $4 for kids.
