ATLANTA (AP) -- A student who shot himself inside a bathroom at Banks County High School has died.
The Times newspaper in Gainesville reports that the male student died Saturday.
Authorities have said the 16-year-old shot himself around 8 a.m. Friday at the school in Homer.
The student was airlifted to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta but later died from his injuries.
No one else was injured in the shooting, but the school was locked down until 2 p.m. Friday so law enforcement officers could sweep the grounds.
Investigators recovered a handgun that was believed to have been used in the suicide attempt.
