Daleville High Helps Ease Military Family Worries

DALEVILLE -- The first few weeks at a new high school can be challenging, even for children in military families who might have to move each year. Fortunately, the Student 2 Student organization at Daleville High School tries to ease the transition.

Students who provide mentoring, tutoring and assist in organizing events for the new students said the program is for their benefit.

“It's a program that really wanted to make transitioning into and out of schools easier for kids that are military or just moving for any purpose really,” said Military President, Jakob Vanlandingham,

Sometimes before a student is even enrolled at DHS, club members take them on a tour of the school and get to know them. Then, they pair them up with one or two students in the organization who genuinely befriend them.

Student 2 Student is a national organization. Around 20 Daleville High students take part in the program. There is a designated room at the high school where new students and their peer mentors can hang out and do their homework together.
