t’s a new year and that means gyms and diet centers all over the Wiregrass are becoming a little more crowded.
“Everybody wants a fresh start everyone wants a new beginning, I’m going to be better, I’m going to do better, it’s all part of the new self with the new year,” explained Michelle Wagner, of the Metabolic Research Center in Dothan.
But before you lock yourself in to an hour on the elliptical, remember that experts say it’s possible to have too much of a good thing.
“You shouldn't do too much too fast,” suggests Jeff Hughey, General Manager of Max Fitness.
“Start out using light weight with more repetition and if it feels uncomfortable when exercising you’re probably doing something wrong,"
To avoid injury, Max Training personal training manager, Anjelica Edelbroich, suggests stretching.
“You want to make sure you are doing stretches for things like your calves, your hamstrings, your gluts, all those things tend to tighten up and that can lead to an injury, “ Edelbroich says.
However, losing weight isn’t just about hitting the gym hard.
“You can do all the working out that you want to but if you don't have the nutrition along with it you can lose the weight you can get in somewhat good shape but the nutrition is 75 percent of it,” said Wagner.
Edelbroich says “You didn't get where you are over night you are not going to get to your goals overnight either and so if you are willing to put in that time and that effort that is what is going to get you to your goals overtime.”
