VALDOSTA, Ga. (AP) -- Motorists cruising through Valdosta on Interstate 75 will soon be able to mash the gas a little harder.
The Valdosta Daily Times reports the city council has unanimously approved raising the speed limit to 70 mph on the stretch of I-75 that runs through the city limits.
The decision comes almost a year after city officials dropped the interstate speed limit to 65 mph at the suggestion of state Department of Transportation officials. Pat Collins, Valdosta's city engineer, says the speed limit was lowered when city officials were updating their permit for speed detection devices.
Valdosta councilmen voted this week to raise the speed limit back to 70 mph based on a study completed in July.
