Dothan, AL - The Houston County area Special Olympics Track and Field Games kicked off Wednesday with the running of the torch.
The annual five mile journey started at Miracle Field and ended at Dothan High School.
About thirty officials with Dothan Police, Houston County Sheriff’s Office, Alabama State Troopers, and other agencies all participated.
“Every year law enforcement gets together and helps support the Special Olympics. We carry the flame of hope through the streets of Dothan to raise awareness for their abilities,” said Alabama Bureau of Investigation Agent Heath Carpenter.
Their final lap was around the track at Dothan High School. Then they passed it down the line to friends and family members finally lighting the torch to start the games.
