Soldier Dies after Ft. Benning Training Run

FORT BENNING, Ga. (AP) -- Authorities say a Fort Benning soldier has died two days after collapsing and losing consciousness during a physical fitness test.

Military officials say the soldier, whose name hasn't been released, died Thursday at St. Francis Hospital.

The soldier collapsed while on a two-mile run at the base on Tuesday. Officials say the soldier was taken to the hospital, and never regained consciousness.

Monica Manganaro, a public affairs spokeswoman at the base, says the death remains under investigation.

Few other details were available early Friday.
