UPDATE: Suspect in Gordon Shooting In Custody

UPDATE 9:58 A.M.

The suspect in the Gordon shooting that happened yesterday afternoon is now in custody.

UPDATE 2:52 P.M.

A suspect has been named in the shooting. He is 17-year-old Brandon Smith. He's described as a white male, about 6-feet tall, weighing 160 lbs. Police believe he could be a survivalist.

Police believe Smith is on foot, within a 3-4 mile radius of the scene. At this time it's unknown what he's wearing. Investigators say Smith discarded the camouflaged clothing he was wearing.

Smith faces attempted murder and first-degree burglary charges.

Authorities say they believe the incident began as a robbery before 1:00 p.m. The victim was shot in the chest, but investigators say it appeared to be a "grazing wound". The victim's injuries appeared to be non-life-threatening. His identity has not been released.

K9 units and air support are on the scene. Multiple agencies have responded.

Authorities are urging residents to be aware of anything suspicious happening on their property. If they see anything suspicious, they're urged to call the Houston Co. Sheriff's Office at (334) 677-4882.


UPDATE 1:06 P.M.

A 'be on the lookout' has been issued for a white male, approximately 6 feet tall. He was reportedly wearing camo clothing and was last seen on foot in the woodline.


GORDON, AL - A shooting has been reported in Houston County.

Sheriff Andy Hughes confirms deputies are responding to Spring Hill Road in Gordon. He says the victim was shot in the chest.

According to radio traffic, the suspect may have taken the victim's car. The Dale County Sheriff's Department's helicopter has been called in to assist.
