In the last few months area law enforcement have reported a series of burglaries.
Investigators believe some of the crimes may have been committed by the same person.
It stemmed from a high speed chase Wednesday afternoon in Dothan.
It ended with a blown out tire and the arrests of 23-year-old Josiah Whigan and 33-year-old Roderick Melton of Gordon.
"One of our off-duty officers happened to be riding in his marked vehicle and saw a vehicle and saw what happened to match the description of a possible burglary suspect vehicle," said Houston County Sheriff’s Office Captain Antonio Gonzalez.
When the officer turned on his lights, it all started.
Both Whigan and Melton are charged with reckless endangerment and attempting to elude officers.
Now investigators are linking the pair to several burglaries in Headland.
"There was also a large amount of weapons, household items and jewelry inside the vehicle. From one of the statements I was able to gather from one of the suspects, there are at least 2 burglaries here in Houston County," said Gonzalez.
Officers are looking to see if the duo is involved in any other burglaries in the area.
Captain Gonzalez isn't surprised by the occurrence of break-ins, he says this is the prime time for criminals.
But the best way to protect yourself is to limit the amount of information you share.
"78% of the burglars who have been caught say they got the information from Facebook. From pictures on your Facebook account and find out exactly where you live and get a live shot of your house through Google Earth," said Gonzalez.
Gonzalez also recommends a neighborhood watch and installing a security camera.
While it's not cheap, it could pick up the vehicle description and the burglars.
"Sometimes law enforcement and citizens would say they're just burglars, but some of these guys have a background in a lot of intelligence as far as what they do in their criminal field," said Gonzalez.
Deputies are still investigating Whigan's and Melton's criminal backgrounds.
Gonzalez says both are well-known in the community.
The latest data shows that in 2009 there were more than 2.1-million burglaries across the country.
That’s down from the previous year.
