Senate Continues Work on Immigration Reform

Senators working on the immigration reform bill say they are near a deal that increases support for their sweeping legislation.

The amendment adds hundreds of miles of new border fencing, about 20,000 new border agents and its beefs up a federal program that makes it easier for employers to determine worker’ immigration status.

Senate leaders want strong bi-partisan support for this measure but some republicans are withholding support because they don’t believe the legislation does enough to secure borders.

Senators are aiming to finish this bill by July 4.
