UPDATE: GBI to Announce Arrest in Seminole County Double Murder Investigation

THOMASVILLE, GA -- The Georgia Bureau of Investigation on Friday morning will announce an arrest in an open double homicide investigation. The announcement is planned for 10:30 a.m. CDT.

The GBI has been assisting the Seminole County Sheriff's Department in the ongoing investigation. Eliace Marie Smith, 49 and Heber Jettie Bennett, Jr., 64 were shot and killed in their home on Monday morning.

The shootings took place on 8056 Northwood Drive in Donalsonville, GA. Police responded to a 911 call at 7 a.m. on Monday morning about the discovery of bodies at the residence.

After investigating, both bodies were found with gunshot wounds. At that time, the GBI and Seminole County Sheriff's Office ruled the case a double homicide.


On Monday, July 1, 2013, at approximately 7:00 am, the Seminole County Sheriff's Office responded to a 911 call in reference to the bodies being found of Eliace Marie Smith, 49 and Heber Jettie Bennett, Jr., 64, both of 8056 Northwood Dr., Donalsonville, GA. The Sheriff's Office requested the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to assist in the investigation. Both bodies had gunshot wounds and were found at their residence. This is considered a double homicide murder investigation and the investigation continues to determine the identity of the suspect. A man and a woman found dead in Seminole County has really shaken up one neighborhood.

"I couldn't believe it, I couldn't get to my house with out going around the block to get in," says neighbor Larry Hartzog.

"It makes me scary, i mean scared because we got good neighbors, ive been down here ten years, " says neighbor Martha Chastain

Police tape and cruisers got the attention of neighbors; It's the scene after a neirghbor called police. Upon arrival law enforcement found two bodies.

"My husband walks every morning on this road, he walks a mile and comes back and he came back this morning and said Martha somethings going on down there, I said what, he said they got the road, all across the road, everything is roped off at that little mobile home that they've been working on and i said i wonder whats happened," says Chastain.

With so many questions up in the air, some neighbors began to flock to the scene of the investigation.

"They stopped me and i asked them, i lived down the road and I'm concerned, I want to know whats going on and should I be on the look out for someone and they said they couldn't go into it right then, they were waiting on a search warrant. I finally asked them, i said is there dead bodies, he said yes mam".

"I feel like you know it could happen to anybody and it makes you kind of worry and wonder about really how safe you are, so we hope for the best, " says Hartzog.

Neighbors say they believe the two victims were fixing up the place and making it look nice.
One news agency is reporting the victims may have suffered gun shot wounds, however, Police did not confirm that information or make any official statements on the victims or what may have happened in the house.
