ORLANDO, FL - There is now a second confirmed case of Middle Eastern Respiratory Syndrome, or MERS, in the U.S.

The patient is a health care provider who lives and works in Saudi Arabia. He traveled to Florida to visit family and is currently being treated at an Orlando hospital.

Doctors say the man's family and several hospital workers who came in contact with the man have been quarantined just in case.

"All the team members that were in contact with the patient, before he was placed on airborne isolation precautions, they have been contacted, and they are currently being evaluated and tested," said Dr. Antonio Crespo.

The first U.S. case of MERS was confirmed this month in Indiana. That patient was also a health care provider who had been working in Saudi Arabia.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, MERS comes from the same group of viruses as the common cold and attacks the respiratory system. Symptoms may include fever, cough and shortness of breath, and can lead to pneumonia and kidney failure.
