The search continues for a missing swimmer off Panama City Beach.

It all began around 5:30 Monday behind the Days Inn.

Panama City Beach police say 24 year old Tay Elliott and three friends from the New Albany area were all swimming in the gulf.

One of them, 19 year old Mario Waldrop, started struggling in a rip current. Elliott and 23 year old Vasonique Thompson tried to save Waldrop but they got caught in the rip current as well.

A by-stander helped Waldrop and Thompson back to shore. But Elliott didn’t make it.

He was last seen about 100 yards off-shore.

Panama City Beach Surf Patrol and Fire were first on scene. The US Coast Guard and Bay County sheriff’s office were called in to assist.

Elliott still has not been located and the search continued Tuesday.
