Scott Political Shifts Will be an Election Issue

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) -- If the GOP plans to call Republican-turned-Democrat Charlie Crist a flip-flopping opportunist in a potential matchup with Gov. Rick Scott, they may have to plan to have the same accusations thrown at Scott.

Scott signed the bill that cut early voting days, and now wants more early voting days. He signed a bill to hand out teacher pay raises based on performance and now wants an across-the-board raise for all teachers. And he embraced expanding Medicaid after fighting President Barack Obama's health care overhaul before and since taking office.

Democrats now say that his shifting positions are designed to endear himself to voters and that he's governing by polls. It's the same criticism Republicans lay on former Gov. Crist, who has said he's thinking of running for his old office.
