CHELCO has received reports that businesses as well as private citizens are receiving calls threatening disconnection for non-payment of utility bills. And, in some cases, callers have told members that there is a problem with the electric meter that could result in a fire if payment for a replacement meter is not made immediately.
Anyone receiving such a call should be aware that the caller is not a representative of CHELCO. Such incidents should be reported to local law enforcement immediately. CHELCO will never request or take credit card information over the phone.
CHELCO is a not-for-profit electric distribution cooperative serving more than 49,000 accounts in Walton, Okaloosa, Holmes and Santa Rosa counties.
