Dothan, AL - The Salvation Army will be accepting applications to help families in need this holiday season.

Sign-ups for the Christmas Assistance Program will be in the community room at the Salvation Army Office in Dothan at 1001 South Bell Street.

Applications will be taken over the next two weeks. The dates are October 8, 9, 10, 12, 17, and 18 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Salvation Army leaders say they look forward to helping people each year.

"There are many that this is the only thing that their kids will get this year. That's the thanks that we look for. Is those that are so thankful they just don't know what to say," said Linda Bates, Salvation Army Social Services Director.

To apply bring an Alabama picture ID and social security card. Just a birth certificate and social security card is needed for children 12 and under.

You also need to bring proof of expense and income.

Last year more than 1,600 people were hired.
