Salvation Army Needs Your Help

By  |

Every year the Salvation Army hopes to make one persons Christmas a little easier, and you can help out by picking an angel off of the tree.

You see them every year, standing out in all kinds of weather ringing a bell to help the needy,
But do you know what your donations go towards?

“The money that is donated, the nickels the dimes, the pennies that are put in those red kettles. That’s the money that’s used by the Dothan Salvation Army’s operation funds for an entire year.
We also use that money for the angel tree of course so children have a great Christmas.” Salvation Army Sergeant Major Jim Mooney said.

An angel tree that is already set up in the Wiregrass Commons Mall.
Each angel on the tree represents a person who cannot afford gifts for their family this holiday season.

“They’re single parents, they are people because the way the economy is, have a lot their jobs and their just barely making ends meet. At the end of the day they don’t even get all of their bills paid.” Mooney said.

And this year, there are a lot of people who could use the gift of giving.

“We have 1661children this year that need to be adopted which entails about 17 to 1800 families all together.” Salvation Army Major Cheryl Phillips said.

And the Salvation Army says you're not only helping their organization out by your donations, you're becoming someone’s guardian angel.

The Salvation Army says you can help out by picking an angel off of a tree or help by ringing the bell, they still need plenty of volunteers this holiday season.
