SC Father Charged with Fatally Shooting Son

MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (AP) -- Authorities say a 60-year-old Berkeley County man fatally shot his son in the chest and injured his son's fiancee.

Johnny Irby is being held without bail on murder and attempted murder charges. Moncks Corner police say he admitted killing 35-year-old Telly Irby and shooting 32-year-old Michelle Wiggins.

The victim's uncle, Gene Irby, says Johnny Irby became enraged when his eldest son struck him in the head. He says they were arguing over the couple and her three children moving out of the house.

Gene Irby also lived in the home. He says his nephew had moved from Jacksonville, Fla., months earlier in hopes of finding work.

Officers found Telly Irby dead on the porch. Wiggins was also shot in the chest but is in stable condition at a hospital.
