U.S. Representative Martha Roby and U.S. Senator Richard Shelby wrote a letter on Wednesday to the Veterans Affairs Secretary Robert McDonald to take a closer look at Central Alabama's Veteran's Health Care system.
They are calling for representatives to visit the Montgomery facility. One of the issues addressed is the wait times.
"It was revealed in early June that the Central Alabama VA had one of the worst wait times in the country, said Roby.
"My husband refused to go to the VA for the plain and simple fact that they would tell you one time then they tell you another, and when he would get there they wouldn't have his paperwork together," said Neva Mona Grubbs, who lost her husband to cancer.
On Wednesday, the U.S. House approved a compromise bill that could refurbish the department as a whole and provide better care to veterans. The bill is now in the hands of the Senate, which is expected to vote by the end of the week.
