WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Martha Roby (R-AL) today announced the additions of two staff members - Amelia McMahon and David Wellen.

McMahon will serve as a constituent services representative in Rep. Roby’s Andalusia district office, while Wellen will serve as staff assistant in the Washington, D.C. office. Wellen replaces Liz Laurie, who recently took a new job, while McMahon replaces Frances Spurlin, who retired last week after 27 years of service to Alabama's Second District.

“Whether it is a district office in Andalusia, Dothan, or Montgomery, or our Washington office on Capitol Hill, I want my office to be a place that constituents can turn to whenever they have questions or need help navigating a federal agency. That starts by hiring first rate staff members who are committed to serving the people of Alabama's Second Congressional District. David and Amelia have demonstrated that skill and commitment, and I know they will make an excellent addition to our team,” Rep. Roby said.

McMahon, a native of Covington County and graduate of Florala High School, served the past seven years under Congressman Jeff Miller (R-FL) in his Fort Walton Beach district office. She is a graduate of the University of West Florida with a degree in elementary education. She worked previously as an executive assistant for Crestview Aerospace.

“Becoming a member of Rep. Roby's team is both an honor and privilege,” McMahon said. “As a native of Covington County, I am eager to interact with constituents and assist them with their needs. I will make sure our Andalusia office, which serves Butler, Conecuh, Covington, and Crenshaw counties, remains accessible to any constituent who may need assistance with a federal agency. I appreciate this opportunity to further my devotion and commitment to public service with Rep. Roby.”

Wellen, of Mandeville, La., previously worked as an intern for the House Natural Resources Committee and Rep. Steve Womack (R-AR). He graduated from Louisiana State University in 2012 with a degree in Political Science.

“I’m honored to have the opportunity to work for a Member of Congress that is so committed to the constituents she represents,” Wellen said. “I know how important constituent service and outreach is to Rep. Roby, and I look forward to maintaining our office’s open and facilitating qualities. With such a large agriculture and military presence in the district, I know that important interaction between individuals and the federal government often occurs. Our office is here to help make that interaction as smooth as possible.”

In addition to her Congressional office in Washington, D.C., Rep. Roby maintains district offices in Dothan, Montgomery, and Andalusia. The district offices are primarily responsible for helping constituents work through bureaucracy at federal agencies including Social Security, Medicare, and the Department of Veterans Affairs, among others.
