ADAMSVILLE, Alabama - The mother of a man holed up in an Adamsville house surrounded by police said lawmen entered her home about an hour ago with guns drawn.

"I heard the sirens, and they just pointed the guns and told us to get out of the house," Michelle Smith said.

Smith said her son, 22-year-old Jeremy Nevitt, is the suspect in the Wednesday night robbery of the Piggly Wiggly on River Run Road in Mountain Brook.

Smith said her son left their home on Tall Tree Lane this morning when police who had him under surveillance started to follow him and then gave chase.

He went back inside his home, where he now remains. His mother, sister and other family members were ordered out of the house by police.

Smith said her son worked at Piggly Wiggly for a year until he was let go several weeks ago following an incident involving a gun. Smith said that incident and this incident, she believes, are both misunderstandings.

"The manager said he would hire him back once this got straightened out," she said.

She said her son often loans his car out to friends, which has caused him trouble in the past and might be causing him trouble this time. His car was seen on video surveillance tapes fleeing the Piggly Wiggly robbery.

Smith said she has tried to reach her son by cell phone, but he has not answered.

"I don't know did he do it or not," she said. "I just don't want anything to happen to him or to anyone else out here."
